I looked out the window and saw snow so went back to bed
until 8:30 AM. Pat and Mike were up early, and Mike had already made his rounds
to the Presse (for the “International Herald”), the small grocery store and the
bakery. When we finally came down, Mike prepared scrambled eggs, and Ron fixed
a platter with cheeses, prosciutto, and salami. Mike also cut fresh fruit. We also had walnuts
and Baguette. A more plentiful selection than some of the hotels we had
visited.
Outside our apartment |
The snow outside our apartment (which had three balconies) was beautiful, but made us reluctant to venture out. We had a very lazy morning. Ron, suffering a severe gout attack, had his foot elevated with
ice. I did a load of laundry. Pat was on the computer and Mike did his
crosswords.
Mike went out again around 1:30 to get some things from the
grocery store, but it was closed for the lunch hour. So, he asked the lady at
the bakery to slice a baguette, and Ron prepared SMALL grilled cheese sandwiches
with Mimolette cheese for our lunch. I read on-line about this cheese, and it was created at the request of Louis XIV to have a French product similar to and to replace the very popular Dutch Edam at that time - the orange color to differentiate it from Edam. Pat heated up the remaining soup.
Mike and Pat “disappeared” after lunch – a little nap. Ron
and I were so fed up about not having wi-fi on our laptops – EXTREMELY
FRUSTRATING!
That evening Mike fixed burgers, and Ron cut lettuce, tomato, onion and pickle. Pat and I went down to the little grocery store to get some chips to go with the burgers. Good to have some "comfort" food!
